Saltford Golf Club Pro Tips
Hole 1 - A challenging opening hole which needs a drive up the left centre of the fairway. The second shot needs to be a lay up played left centre again to leave the best line in for your pitch to the green.
Hole 2 - A well guarded par 3 where you should avoid missing the green on the left
Hole 3 - A challenging short par 4 which demands an accurate tee shot past the tree on the fairway. This will leave a downhill mid to short iron in to the left centre of the green, thereby taking the front bunker out of play
Hole 4 - A tough hole which requires an accurate drive to avoid the stream on the right and the out of bounds on the left. Green side bunkers left and right demand precision with the second shot.
Hole 5 - The longest hole on the course at 571 yards from the white tees. Trees right and left of the fairway require you to hit two straight shots to get you in range for your approach shot, which should ideally be from the right side of the fairway – beware of the green which slopes deceptively from front to back
Hole 6 - The toughest hole on the course at 430 yards all uphill with potential trouble left and right and with a small tiered green. A par here and you can congratulate yourself
Hole 7 - A tempting hole where the long hitters may cut the corner and get close to or even drive the green. A fairway wood or long iron off the tee down to the corner of the dogleg will only leave a short iron approach if you play it more conventionally.
Hole 8 - A long straight par 4 between the conifers to a large 2 tiered green. The fairway falls to the left so aim your tee shot down the right side. With a greenside bunker front left, keep your second shot also up the right hand side
Hole 9 - A tricky par 3 with a narrow entrance to the green which is guarded by 4 bunkers. If you do miss the green, miss it to the left as a shot to the right will leave you in the trees
Hole 10 - A sharp dogleg to the left – a 220 yard drive to the corner is ideal and will leave you a mid iron over a swale to the green which slopes steeply from back to front, do not leave a downhill putt if you can avoid it
Hole 11 - A par 3 with bunkers front, left and right – a ball pitching front left may roll off into the waiting bunker. The ideal shot is a gentle fade to the mid right portion of the green
Hole 12 - A short par 4 over a valley with the fairway sloping right to left. The green is protected by bunkers front left and front right – a good birdie opportunity
Hole 13 - The longest par 4 on the back 9 with a fairway which slopes gently from left to right. The green is protected by tall trees to the front left and is 3 tiered. When the pin is on the top level you have a very small landing area for your approach shot
Hole 14 - A short par 5 which gives a birdie opportunity provided you get your drive away. Out of bounds down the right hand side of the hole is another feature of this hole. The green is sunken with a steep fall off the back so avoid going long with your approach
Hole 15 - Aim left side off the tee to a sloping fairway – if you pick the correct line this hole is driveable for the long hitters. The green is small and slopes from left to right
Hole 16 - A tough hole which requires a good tee shot over the marker post. The fairway slopes severely from its centre to the right. You will need an accurate second shot over the valley to a green with a narrow entrance guarded front right and left by bunkers
Hole 17 - The signature hole and one which demands respect. The tee is elevated and the green is protected by a pond front left and a bunker to the right. Try to leave an uphill putt as the green slopes from back to front
Hole 18 - A daunting finishing hole where driving accuracy is at a premium with out of bounds down the right and dense woodland down the left. Get your drive in position and you should finish with a par
